This is the second in the series of the arm chair detective books. No one is actually killed in this mystery. It is a book about a man named Old Tom who never leaves his arm chair and uses his deductive reasoning skills to help a young man named Trench to solve a mystery. This is an enjoyable read that can be read in a sitting or two for those who like to read mysteries.

Hard to get through in play form. I spent most of my time ticked off bouncing back and forth from Trench to Old Tom and it drove me crazy! The story is good I just wish the author had presented it that way (as a novel) or it was on stage like "Our Town" or something.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Armchair Detective at Christmas December 28, 2013

A detective named Trench is hired by a department store to figure out who is trying to put a stop to holiday sales by jamming the door to the first floor of the department store closed and by planting a firecracker and causing a bomb scare. The armchair detective named Old Tom figure out who did it by details that Trench tells him while Old Tom is sitting in his armchair eating stale mince pie. No one was killed in this book. It was a good afternoon read. I would recommend this book to others to read.

A good freebie. Short and easy to read in one go. Be prepared for the layout of the story as a screenplay. Old Tom helps Trench to solve the mystery around Mayflower Court Flats.

A dear, sweat story, wish it were longer, the plot could have played out longer.

Really love a good whodunit. Though it's not a murder mystery, it's a great mystery book, told in play form. It feels like a really well written throwback to the days of An Inspector Calls and such. Very enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mystery or a farce - you decide.

Written in the form of a play. Actually works better as a farce. Although there are no descriptions you still manage to build a picture in your mind of what the characters look like from the dialogue. A interesting concept but will probably not be for the majority of readers.

The armchair detective 'the pilot' What's the literary term for cute? 'cause that's the word that comes to mind; quick, humorous and cute. Refreshing to be entertained without a lot of gratuitous profanity and with just a bit of risqué dialogue. Looking forward to more..
